Dutch : An Essential Grammar 9th edition
Author: William Z. Shetter, Esther Ham
The grammar has been thoroughly revised from stem to stern, probably the most sweeping revision since it was first published. The vocabulary, example sentences and dialogs have all had to withstand scrutiny as to their relevance to the realities of life in the two countries where Dutch is spoken, the Netherlands and Belgium.
The user will find not only dialogs but translation and grammatical exercises in each chapter. Translations of the example dialog material in each chapter are provided in the key to exercises and also within the relevant chapter.
Each chapter contains a practice text. The purpose of these texts is to use a dialog or little story:
– to exemplify the grammar used jn that chapter
– to introduce new vocabulary and exemplify the use of new words
– to show good modern conversational usage in practice in extended
– to provide some natural exposure to various aspects of the cultures of both countries.
